We’re sure the feeling isn’t ‘One Sided’..
Taking influence from the greats spanning from J Dilla, Daft Punk and Erykah Badu, Joe Hertz has taken the underground electronic RnB scene by storm. Born in the UK, Joe’s work has gone on to hit the airwaves of Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, giving him the credit he deserves.
His new collaboration ‘One Sided’, with Kaleem Taylor (known for his otherworldly vocals on Tchami's song Promesses) is set to rein in the British summertime with its moody feel contrasted by its brass section and groovy rhythm.
As the song outros from its choruses, it brings those classic horns reminiscent of an early Jay Z production. The synth sections combined with pitched vocals also provide a Disclosure-founded modern UK Garage sound.
The song's lyrics explore the concept of love being 'One Sided', having Kaleem express his thoughts about a past love. What is beautiful is the first verse is from his perspective, and the second appears to be from his partner's side, giving you a glimpse into the full story. 'You give but don't give back' is one of the many complex, thought-provoking lines of the hook.
If you thought this moody masterpiece couldn't get any better, the official music video features a lone skater who teams up with a friend to skate through the island of Malta. This slightly hazy, nostalgically edited video perfectly captures the eerie summer vibe which Joe & Kaleem have gone for.
Keep an eye out for more from Joe Hertz, he's set to have a big next two years.
